Introduction • Corporate History
Fresh Products, LLC was started in Toledo, Ohio in 1971. Fresh began as a partnership between three already successful businessmen. After a short time, Fresh had become known as the odor control manufacturer of choice throughout the Midwest region of the United States. The three businessmen, Don Anderson, Jim Findlay and Jim Lower worked very well together and in a short time Fresh had developed a successful working relationship with two key companies. The first, Impact Products, sold janitorial plastic items and Canberra, handled cleaning chemicals. Jim Lower and Jim Findlay had founded these companies earlier. Throughout the 1970's, all three of these companies prospered, and Don Anderson pushed Fresh to new heights by bringing out several important new products.
In the early 1980's, Fresh continued to grow and needed more time and expertise than the partners could provide. They recruited Bob Brown, already a very successful entrepreneur, to join the team. Bob bought out Jim Lower and Jim Findlay and was a partner with Don Anderson. Using the experience Bob had in the operational area of manufacturing, they were able to reduce the lead-time from 6 weeks to 2 weeks. This was accomplished, even though the number of products offered had doubled! Fresh Products, LLC began to utilize the latest in packaging technology and undertook 3 physical plant additions that increased the size of the plant more than 400%. This new capacity allowed Fresh to respond to customer requests and began to offer para blocks as well as deodorants, liquids, gels and powders . They also expanded their sales to blanket the country.
In the 90's Bob Brown was able to recruit Doug Brown, his son, from the Xerox Corporation. Doug had a successful career in Sales Management with Xerox, and was able to bring those skills to Fresh. Fresh undertook two more significant production expansions and became even more vertically integrated. To better service the demands of the increased para sales, Fresh constructed a para refining tower and unique cooling process that is the most efficient in all of North America. Fresh Products' desire to remain the leader in odor control technology led to 5 U.S. Patents. Through this innovation, Fresh invented the first ever, dual soap and air freshener dispenser. As the leader in non-para block deodorants, Fresh research led them to offer blocks that used bio-engineered enzymes and spores that were able to attack odors at their source and were better for the environment.
To round out the century, The American Culinary Institute awarded the BioSnake® product line (with bacterial spores) the Gold Medal of Excellence in 1999 and 2000; Fresh became a cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) manufacturer for soap; Fresh expanded its vertical integration by adding the manufacturing capability for fragrances.
Sales have continued to move forward and Fresh has become known as the vendor of choice for odor control and other innovative products in over 30 countries around the globe. Fresh has continued to expand by investing in people, as well as new technology. In the coming years Fresh will use the latest technology to continue to offer innovative solutions to the cleaning, environmental, and odor control problems faced by our customers.
